The Driving test...

This is the most difficult part of the process. You can buy a map of the course for 100 Yen in the main building, ground floor, window B. There's only one course for foreigners.

Across the overpass, at the end of the long corridor, and down the stairs to your left, is the waiting room. The doors may be closed - just go in.

You can walk along the course from 12 noon. On the left in green is the course for Foreigners doing a Menkyou Kirikae for Automatic cars. (you) Each turn is numbered, but memorising the course is a better idea!

At 1:00, some officials will come in and start calling names. When you hear your name, go to the official and sign your name on the form.

Pay careful attention to the person in front of you. You will be next in line to drive after that person goes and you will observe them from the back seat. Follow your official downstairs to the course. Take your bags with you. You can also take a cushion to sit on if you want.

The Test System:
The tester and driver sit up front while and observer sits in the back seat.? The tester will only say numbers and left or right.

For example:
"Juu-ichi ban, hidari desu."
"Number Eleven, left."

It's your turn
After the person you observed finishes, get out and "check the vehicle" while he tells the previous driver why he failed them. Then you get in, lock the door, adjust your seat, adjust your mirror, lock your seatbelt, indicate right, put the car in gear, put the handbrake down, look behind you left, behind you right, and drive.

If you dont do ALL the things in blue, you may get 10 points off already before you start. You have 100 pts. you need 75 to pass and it's pretty strict.

Click below for a list of tips and things you should and shouldn't do during your test.
